Texas hires ex-OU co-offensive coordinator Norvell

Former Oklahoma co-offensive coordinator Jay Norvell has joined Texas coach Charlie Strong's staff as a wide receivers coach.

The Longhorns announced Norvell's hiring in a statement issued Friday.

Norvell had served on Sooners coach Bob Stoops' staff since 2008, the last four as co-offensive coordinator. Previously, he was an offensive coordinator at Nebraska in 2004-2006 and UCLA in 2007.

He also served as an NFL assistant coach with the Indianapolis Coach in 1998-2001 and the Oakland Raiders in 2002-2003.

He played one season as a linebacker with the Chicago Bears in 1987.
