Women’s Basketball Loses to Northwestern

The East Central University women’s basketball team fell to Northwestern Oklahoma State, 47-54, at the Kerr Activities Center in Great American Conference action.

The Lady Tigers (17-6, 12-5 GAC) were led by junior Alycea Price, who tallied her second double-double of the season with a career-best 16 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore Erin Walling added 10 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore Dilan Webster garnered nine points and three blocks, which counted for her 90th career block. The 90 blocks set a new ECU career blocks record, taking over from the 89 garnered by Gina Farmer (1995-97).

The game was close throughout the first stanza, with two lead changes and six tie scores. The Lady Tigers were the first team to earn more than a two-point lead in the game, using a 3-0 run over a 1:30 span to go up 14-10. The Lady Rangers (6-16, 5-11 GAC) tied the game again at 22 and took a 22-24 lead with 1:43 left on the clock. Both teams then went cold shooting and that was the way the half ended.

The teams continued the fight in the beginning of the second half, forcing the seventh tie of the game at 26 in the first minute of the half. Northwestern then took control and used a 6-0 run to garner an eight-point lead (26-34), with just over 15 minutes to play. The Lady Rangers kept pushing and increased the lead to as many as 11 before earning the 47-54 win.

While the Lady Tigers earned a 45-36 lead in the rebounding column, they allowed Northwestern to score too many points with the clock stopped. The Lady Rangers went 15-of-18 from the charity stripe, while ECU was 9-of-16.

The Lady Tigers will wrap up the 2012-13 home games, Thursday, Feb. 21 when they host Southern Nazarene at 5:30 p.m. The game is slated as the annual Senior Night, where ECU will honor its three seniors; Regan Brown, Lindsay McCown and Kodi Morrison.
