ECU Women’s Golf Picked to Finish Fifth in GAC

The East Central University women’s golf team was picked to finish fifth at the 2014 Great American Conference Tournament by the league’s head coaches after finishing fifth at the 2013 GAC Tournament.

The Lady Tigers received 26 points in the poll, which saw Arkansas Tech picked first (47 points/six first-place votes). Southwestern Oklahoma State was second (40 points/one first-place vote), Henderson State third (37) and Harding fourth (35/1). Southern Arkansas (18), Arkansas-Monticello (14) and Ouachita Baptist (7) rounded out the poll.

The 2014 GAC Tournament will be hosted at the Hot Springs Country Club for the third-straight season, April 14-16.

ECU lost three players to graduation, who played in the 2013 GAC Tournament. Junior Lindsey Lunceford and sophomore Sarah Delong are two of five returners for the Lady Tigers that played in tournaments last season.
Lunceford finished second on the team during the fall season, with an 81.5 average in four events. Delong played in three tournaments in the fall and earned an 84.7 average.

ECU also returns juniors Shaw Shaw and Sara Posey and sophomore Madison Myers from the 2012-13 squad. Shaw has a 91.5 average in three events so far in 2013-14, while Posey played in one event with an 82 average and Myers saw action in two, with an 82.3 average.

The Lady Tigers added four players to the roster for the 2013-14 season, with freshman Molli Taylor leading the team with an 80.6 average in five events in the fall.

ECU will open the spring portion of the 2013-14 season, Feb. 23-25 at the St. Edward’s Women’s Classic at Grey Rock in Austin, Texas.
