Women’s Tennis Picks Up 5-4 Win Over Southern Nazarene

The East Central University women’s tennis team improved to 4-4 overall and 2-0 in the Great American Conference after earning a 5-4 win over Southern Nazarene.

The Lady Tigers started with a 2-1 lead after the doubles matches. ECU’s senior Marta Valles and sophomore Elisabeth Dignard earned an 8-4 win over Masha Andrianova and Marina Shipilova at No. 1 doubles. Sophomore Bernardita Muscillo and junior Agostina Moran then claimed an 8-5 win over Payton Bergmann and Kimberly Wiedemann at No. 3 doubles.

ECU then lost the first three singles matches, but rebounded to win the final three for the 5-4 win. Sophomore Aurelie Rodriguez claimed a 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles over Karina Kotova. Moran added a 6-3, 6-2 win over Bergmann at No. 5 singles and sophomore Kelsey Kerr defeated Wiedemann at No. 6 singles 6-3, 7-5.

The Lady Tigers will now return home for two matches. ECU will first host Arkansas Tech, Saturday, March 30 at 12:30 p.m. and then battle Seminole State, Monday, April 1 at 1 p.m. at the ECU Tennis Courts.
