DAVIS, Okla. (KXII) - A shop in downtown Davis caught fire Wednesday morning, leaving clouds of smoke hovering over the city.

“About 10:45, we noticed smoke and then the firemen blocked off the street and after about an hour, we started to see the flames,” said Main Street Business owner Rolanda Rogers.

Witnesses noticed smoke emerge from TJ’s Resale and Gifts on Main Street in Davis when firemen arrived to the scene.

Soon a huge fire followed, burning the shop.

“It was just smoke for the longest [time], and then all of a sudden Boom! There were just flames everywhere, and they were tall, and they actually looked like they reached over towards the middle of the street,” Rogers said. “They were that big. Of course, the wind hadn’t help us any.”

A team of firefighters from several Texoma fire departments responded, and witnesses said a team of firefighters were already there when the flame erupted.

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation helped redirect traffic.

“They’ve all been working really hard, they evacuated that side of the street, and then later on, they came and evacuated our side,” Rogers said.

Fortunately, the fire did not spread to other buildings on the street.

“There is a firewall, and it held up and the building next to it was just smoke damaged and a little bit of fire on the roof,” Rogers said.

No injuries or a cause of the fire have been reported.

The Oklahoma Fire Marshal is investigating.

Main Street business owners said they feel a sense of loss for the historic building, but they are grateful for the firefighters’ work.

“It’s going to be quite a loss here, but I am going to brag on the firemen,” said Rogers. “It’s a little volunteer fire department and they’re there every time there’s a need. We’re just really proud of our fire department.”
