SHERMAN, Texas (KXII) - Residents across Grayson County cast ballots Tuesday in the Texas primaries, with three contested local races on the ballot.

Three races on the Grayson County ballot

The contested races include incumbent Art Arthur versus challenger John Huckle for Precinct 2 Commissioner, Art Clayton versus Christina Fox for 397th District Judge, and Tammy Reddic versus Linda Denman for County Clerk.

Voters weigh in at the polls

Voters said the process moved quickly. Garrett Patton said the visit took him less than five minutes.

Patton said consistent participation matters to him.

“I don’t ever miss a time to vote. We got to make sure that the people coming in have leadership and direction,” Patton said.

That reason echoed through many voters as they hit the polls.

“It’s our civic duty. If you don’t vote, you don’t have a say. And you have no right to complain,” voter Diana Van Buskirk said.

Voter Tera Owens noted the paper ballot format and the significance of casting a vote.

“There was a time when people who looked like me weren’t allowed to vote. So I make sure that I get down here and exercise my right,” Owens said.

Voters cite issues including health and education

Terry Templeton, a retired public educator, said she looks for candidates focused on specific issues.

“Health and education. I didn’t see anything as far as agriculture on this ballot, and that is a concern of mine as well,” Templeton said.

Templeton said she has been following developments in the country closely and believes voters have a role in shaping leadership priorities.

“We of the people can direct what our leaders should be working on,” Templeton said.

Neighboring counties also holding elections

Voters in Fannin, Lamar, and Cooke counties are also heading to the polls Tuesday to elect their next county judge.
