Choctaw Nation buys former Durant Big Lots facility

DURANT, Okla. (KXII) - The Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma announced Wednesday that it has purchased the former Big Lots Facility and adjoining land near the tribe’s Durant headquarters.
The move comes after rumors emerged that the building could become an ICE detention center after ICE agents and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol conducted ‘Operation Guardian’ along Bryan County highways in November.
“The Choctaw Nation’s continued growth is creating new opportunities to strengthen our economic impact and expand our long-term business strategy,” Choctaw Nation Chief Gary Batton said. “We are evaluating how to use this adjoining property as part of our efforts to support operational growth and exploring a variety of potential uses that align with our strategic vision. This is an opportunity to enhance our presence and continue driving economic prosperity for our tribal members and the surrounding community.”
The Big Lots distribution center closed in 2025.
