Plainview Indians Preview
ARDMORE, Okla. (KXII) - The Plainview Indians enter the 2026 football season under head coach Scott Pratt, who guided the team to a 7-4 record in 2025 and a third-place finish in Class 3A District 1. Pratt said the roster returns several players with game experience heading into the new year.
“You know, we returning quite a few kids with playing experience and so we’re going to have some young ones,” Pratt said. “They’re going to have to learn the speed of the game. And they’re just an experience and they just need to be on the field for us. Each day we just got to walk off the field and say, hey, we’re a better football team than what we were when we started.”
Receiver Jaden Smith said the returning class is setting an example for younger players.
“We have like a lot of leaders for this year, but it shows for the younger classmen that they can do it too if we could do it,” Smith said.
Lineman Ethan Eads said the focus this season is on reestablishing a program identity following a near-complete coaching staff change in 2025.
“I think the biggest thing is stability,” Eads said. “Just kind of, I mean, as you know, we had an almost completely new coaching staff come in last year. And so just kind of readjusting our mindset, just kind of reestablishing a standard of what we do at Plainview. I think that’s what this year is about.”
The goal for the program remains a state championship. Pratt referenced a previous loss to Perkins as motivation for the current roster.
“You know, it’s been a long time,” Pratt said. “We’ve had a bad taste in our mouth since we walked off this field against Perkins and our kids have worked extremely hard to prepare us for this upcoming season.”
Plainview opens the 2026 season on the road at Levelland on Aug. 28.
