Early voting ends in Grayson County with nearly 40,000 voters
Party chairs react to turnout as polls open Tuesday
SHERMAN, Texas (KXII) - Early voting is over in Grayson County, where nearly 40,000 people voted early, according to the Grayson County Election Administration.
Early voting turnout
Grayson County Democratic Party Chair Barbara Rush said she saw many first-time voters during early voting.
“I’ve seen people who seem nervous about getting the right cards and they’re like, you can tell that they’re new to the game,” Rush said.
Grayson County Republican Party Chair Brent Lawson said the early voting turnout follows a familiar pattern.
“That’s down from the presidential election. And we usually see that in the midterm,” Lawson said.
Rush: ‘That is exciting’
Rush said she is optimistic about the contest.
“This contest is going to be, I think, more representative than midterm or less elections usually are. That is exciting,” Rush said.
Lawson: Rural counties key
Lawson said Grayson County Republican voters who show up Tuesday could make the difference.
“We just see this dynamic in Texas where the urban areas tend to be moving a little more blue and we really rely on rural counties and counties like Grayson County to get up their vote to get their numbers up in order to offset some of that,” Lawson said.
Parties continue work through Election Day
Both parties are working until the end. Signs are still going up near voting locations.
“Of course, that’s just half the job. We have to show up tomorrow to finish the job,” Rush said.
“It’s just vital for every Republican in Grayson County to come out and vote in this election,” Lawson said.
Polls are open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday. Voters can find their voting location here.
