Hearing over Andre Thomas’ competency for the death penalty set for March
SHERMAN, Texas (KXII) - A hearing to decide Andre Thomas’ competency for the death penalty has been scheduled for March 9, 2026.
Judge Jim Fallon of the 15th State District Court scheduled the hearing, which is expected to be Thomas’ final chance of avoiding the death penalty.
Andre Thomas, 42, is Grayson County’s only death row inmate. He was convicted in 2005 of killing his ex-wife, Laura Christine Thomas, their 4-year-old son Andre Lee Boren, and her 13-month-old daughter Leyha Hughes by stabbing them to death.
Thomas’ execution was scheduled for April 5 of 2023, but his execution was stayed by Judge Fallon after Thomas’ attorneys asked for one in order to examine records regarding his mental health for a motion to determine if he is competent to be executed.
