SHERMAN, Texas -- One week ago, Terry Hester was shot and killed outside his home and Sherman Police are mum details of the investigation.

His son said he can't understand why it happened. "I'm not saying my dad was an angel or a demon," Terrell Hughes said. "He was a good guy. He was loving and caring."

Neighbors said they heard two gunshots, then saw Hester bleeding on the ground. Hester died on the way to the hospital.

"He didn't deserve to go out like that and it was a cowardly act for someone to come kill him at his house," Hughes said.

Detectives said they have been combing the area for clues, and have been asking for the public's help to catch Hester's killer. "Detectives are still following up on leads," Lt. Bruce Dawsey said. "They are encouraging everyone that has information that has not come forward yet to contact the Sherman Police Department.

Hughes said someone knows what happened to his dad, and added that the person may be afraid to come forward.

"Its one thing to have a scuffle to have a bloody lip but learn from it, sharpen your skills for yourself, but its another to take someone's life," Hughes said.

Hughes said he is counting on police to find who killed his father. "They assured me they were going to do their job, and I am going to hold them to it because I want justice for my dad," Hughes said.

Hester's funeral is at 2 p.m. Saturday at Grand Avenue Church of Christ.

Anyone with information on his murder is asked to contact Sherman Police.
